Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-R2312 problems.

Hi Guys 'n Gals,

I hope i'm in the right forum here for this problem as I think it's a driver problem, but please let me know if it's not!?

The problem started with not being able to get any sound out of the speakers of a laptop owned by my partner. Thinking that I might be able to sort it myself (I should learn really....!) I had a go at fixing it, but as you would probably expect I have ended up doing more damage, and now the DVD-ROM doesn't work nevermind no sound coming from the speakers. The message that comes up in Device Manager is as follows.... 'Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)'.

I originally tried to sort out the problem of the speakers in another forum but that thread didn't get many replies and to be honest I let it slip while I tried to sort out the problem of the DVD-ROM. The laptop is a Compaq Presario 2100 running XP-Service Pack 3.

I look forward to hearing from you and hope you can help.

Kind Regards,

W.
